A.Four City Councilmember districts are hereby established in the City of Monterey. City Councilmembers shall be elected in the electoral districts established by this section. The boundaries and identifying number of each district shall be as described in the City of Monterey City Councilmember District Map, attached to the ordinance codified in this section and incorporated by reference as Exhibit A, and shall continue to be in effect until such districts are amended or repealed.

B.City Councilmembers elected to represent a district must reside in that district and be a registered voter in that district, and any City Councilmember candidate must live in, and be a registered voter in, the district in which they seek election at the time nomination papers are issued. (City Charter Section 2.2, Government Code Section 34882, and Elections Code Section 10227.)

C.Registered voters signing nomination papers or voting for a City Councilmember shall be residents of the geographical area making up the district from which the Councilmember is to be elected pursuant to Government Code Section 34883. (Ord. 3646 § 14, 2022)
